If your bedroom looks like you haven’t left it in the past few months – probably because you haven’t – don’t worry! Cleaning a bedroom cluttered with clothes, old dishes and dust isn’t that difficult. In fact, you can do it in less than an hour, depending on how dirty your bedroom is. With these tips on how to clean a bedroom quickly, mix and match as many as you want; find the perfect combination for you and your bedroom.

Better yet, try and make these tips on how to clean a bedroom quickly a part of your normal schedule so you never have to set aside time to clean your bedroom again. After all, your bedroom is your peaceful, safe haven, so make it be that way.

1. Open the windows and get your cleaning supplies

Before you start figuring out how to clean your bedroom quickly, be prepared. Gather any cleaning supplies you might need: trash bags, cleaning cloths, a vacuum cleaner or broom, a dirty clothes hamper.

Also, open your blinds and windows to air out the room. Spray some air freshener for that extra kick.

2. Tackle the trash and clutter

This step can include a lot, so only clean what applies to your room.

First, throw away any trash you see on the floor, nightstands, dressers, desks, shelves and other surfaces. This includes tissues, wrappers and other junk. If you see old papers or magazines lying around, recycle those.

Any knickknacks or miscellaneous items (books, movies, papers, keys) should be put in their rightful place. If it belongs in a different room, put it there.

All leftover dishes, including plates, bowls, cups and utensils, should go straight to the kitchen.

3. Wipe and dust surfaces

While you are throwing away trash and decluttering areas, take a minute to wipe down the surface spaces, including tabletops, chair legs and bed headboards. You will need a damp cleaning cloth and a dry one.

Use the damp cloth to wipe everything down. The damp cloth prevents dust from going in the air. Next, use the dry cloth to wipe away the remaining moisture and pick up and leftover dust or dirt.

If the surface isn’t too dirty, grab a duster and do a quick dusting.

If you are extra motivated, grab some window cleaner and tackle any mirrors, windows, TV screens or picture frames.

4. Organize your clothes

The next biggest pile in your bedroom is often your clothes. It’s time to change that.

Put any dirty clothes in the hamper to be cleaned later.

For any clean clothes, put them away – hang them in the closet, or fold and store them in the dresser.

BONUS TIP 1: Put away all accessories

Whether you are a man or a woman, everyone has accessories: jewelry, bags, wallets, belts, scarves, shoes, ties. Make sure all these accessories have a home.

5. Make the bed

It’s safe to say that no one likes making the bed. However, a clean bed can make a world of difference in a dirty room.

If you have time, clean all the bedsheets, blankets, covers, quilts or pillows. If you don’t have time or the motivation, that’s okay – pull up the sheets, straighten the covers, fold any leftover blankets and fluff the pillows. You can even flip the mattress.

6. Lastly, vacuum or sweep the floor

The reason you vacuum or sweep last is to get any dust, dirt or crumbs that were dislodged during your clean. For any rugs you have, shake the rugs out before vacuuming or cleaning. Hang the rugs outside to get some air.

Clean under the bed and any other heavy furniture. If you can move furniture easily, do so and clean it there.

BONUS TIP 2: Start a donate pile

During your bedroom clean, you might have found several items you don’t want anymore. Whether it’s an old T-shirt that doesn’t fit or a movie you haven’t watched in years, start a donate pile. You can add to it as you clean, especially during tips 2 and 4 as you organize clutter and clothes.

Once you are done cleaning, take a quick trip to your local Goodwill or other donation centers to drop off these items.
